We offer members of Show Me Solar access to installations of renewable energy systems through community events called "Energy Raisers". Similar to Habitat for Humanity's home building model and Amish "Barn Raisers" our members pool resources and our sponsors make donations in an effort to make solar and other renewable energy systems more accessible and affordable until such time as they become commonplace in the market. While Show Me solar will focus on solar electric and solar thermal installations, we also plan to partner with other organizations to sponsor similar style events for other renewable energy systems such as small wind, geothermal, small hydro, biomass and bio fuel systems as well as green building and energy efficiency retrofits. Therefore we have named our initiative the American Renewable Energy Initiative.
To participate in an Energy Raiser we require that you be a member of Show Me Solar (click Join above for details) and that you have completed a basic workshop on the corresponding technology either from Show Me Solar or a similar certified program. For a schedule of qualifying Show Me Solar workshops please click here. If you would like to be part of the installation crew we ask that you join as a professional member and require that you have completed advanced training either from Show Me Solar or an equivalent certification program. For a schedule of advanced training workshops offered by Show Me Solar please click here.
If instead you would like to turn out to observe and assist in a light duty capacity you are welcome to join as a basic member. Children under 18 years of age accompanying their parents are welcome to attend free. Please note, however, that some areas of most work sites will be restricted due to safety reasons depending on the nature of the installation and the local code and insurance requirements. Only professional members and associates of Show Me Solar will have access to those areas the details of which will be covered during a safety briefing the morning of the event.
After participating in your first Energy Raiser, if you decide that you would like to have Show Me Solar host a similar event to install a renewable energy system at your home, we will ask that you pay the favor forward by participating in a total of at least one additional Energy Raiser, showing your installation on the fall Solar Tour and permitting Show Me Solar to list your project in the OpenPV database maintained by the National Renewable Energy Lab. In addition to cost savings, having a renewable energy system installed at your home or office will contribute to the future of our planet and give you the satisfaction of having been part of a community effort to transform the composition of our energy landscape.
Attention: If you are a skilled and licensed professional electrician, plumber or solar installer and would be willing to discuss the possibility of volunteering to assist with implementation of one or more of our Energy Raiser events please contact our director for training installations, Kevin Allemann, directly by email at kallemann@showmesolar.org or by phone at 573-499-1969. Thank you for your consideration.
Whether you just want to observe to learn more, gain valuable training experience or go solar at home yourself you won't want to miss out on the fun!
