This Land Was Our Land
National Parkland Now Open For Coal, Oil, Fracking for Natural Gas
Salt Lake City, Utah — President Trump drastically scaled back two national monuments, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments, by more than 1.9 million acres. An outpouring of praise from conservative lawmakers as well as protests by activists ignited outside the White House and in Utah. The changes plunge the Trump administration into uncharted legal territory, as no president has sought to modify monuments established under the 1906 Antiquities Act in more than half a century.
His decision removes about 85 percent of the designation of Bears Ears and nearly 46 percent of that for Grand Staircase-Escalante, land that potentially could now be opened for energy exploration.
How Can We Protect Our National Heritage for Future Generations?
Today's Calls To Action from Naomi Klein -&- In Jefferson City
"Just a few days ago, Trump and his billionaire cronies in Congress made their latest attempt to push through their tax scam bill giving billions of dollars in cuts to corporations and the ultra-wealthy while increasing taxes for working families. And how does Congress plan to pay for this massive handout to the top 1%? In part, by opening up the Arctic Wildlife Refuge to Big Oil.
"All year, every day, the Trump administration and the fossil fuel companies have been working hand in hand, leaving our climate and our communities at greater and greater risk. And all year, 350.org has been fighting back. [Also Indivisible, UUFJC, Concerned Citizens, Show Me Solar, many other local, state, and national groups]
All year, 350.org has been working to build local power by fighting to stop new fossil fuel projects, pushing back on Trump’s disastrous climate policies, and moving us towards a 100% renewable energy for all. Together, we can say no to what is immoral and unacceptable and fight with our heart and soul for the better future that is still within our grasp. As a founding 350.org board member, author, and activist, I’m asking you to join this fight."
Today's Call To Action TODAY In Jefferson City
Please join us this Thursday, December 7th at 11:30AM to 1PM at Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer’s office, 2117 Missouri Blvd in Jefferson City. We are asking that everyone be prepared to introduce yourself (and if comfortable, any local community, group or organization of which you are a member) and make a brief, one sentence statement about why you oppose the tax bills currently pending in Congress.
Since Rep. Luetkemeyer is so proud of the claim that we will be able to file our taxes on postcards, it would be great if you could write your statement on a postcard to hand to his staff. Be sure to include your name and address on the post card as we will ask that he respond to you in writing. Of course, feel free to write more than one statement on multiple post cards! We’ll take turns reading all our statements, if it takes 30 minutes or 3 hours!
We will allow those who are on a tight schedule, to read their statements first so that they can be one their way. If you do not have time to write a statement, come anyway and we will provide suggested statements (and post cards) regarding the tax bill for you to read. If you can’t come, send us your statements and contact info and we’ll submit it for you!
Please share the details of this event with as many people and organizations as possible! We would love to see strong turnout and members of many other community groups.
If ever there was a time to take a stand and fight this national threat it is NOW!!!

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES TODAY BEYOND EXTREME - DECEMBER 7, 2017 - CHRISTMAS SEASON
Southern California has felt yellow wind, orange wind, and red wind. But never purple wind. Until now.
The color-coded system showing the expected strength of the winds driving the region's fierce wildfires has reached uncharted territory, pushing past red, which means "high" into the color that means "extreme."
"The forecast for tomorrow is purple," said Ken Pimlott, director at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. "We've never used purple before."
Southern California has already been hit hard by three major fires that have put tens of thousands of people under evacuation orders and destroyed at nearly 200 homes and buildings, a figure that is almost certain to grow.
But the hard-won progress of firefighters could be erased Thursday.
"We're talking winds that can surface that can be 80 miles an hour," Pimlott said. "These will be winds that there will no ability to fight fires." Such winds can instantly turn a tiny fire into a large one, or carry embers that spark new fires miles away.
Citizens' Climate Lobby Meetings with Congress in November
To Pass Climate Legislation
World climate leaders met at the first “Islands COP,” in Bonn, with Fiji presiding over the climate summit held in Germany because Fiji was in the middle of the South Pacific cyclone season.
Also in November, Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL), a bipartisan, nonprofit volunteer organization with more than 87,000 supporters worldwide, lobbied Congress to enact carbon fee and dividend legislation.
Following a summer filled with wildfires and hurricanes made worse by a warming world, Dr. Michael Russell, along with hundreds of citizens arrived in Washington to ask Congress to enact policies that reduce the future risks of climate change. Calling for a price on carbon at its source and returning the net proceeds to American households. CCL legislation, if passed by Congress, will sharply lower CO2 emissions and speed our transition to a green economy.
